May 14th-17th

Hi Parents,
    We have reached the end of Second Grade and it really
has gone by fast!  They are excited and ready for third grade
and I am very proud of them all! Next week will be a little review
and hopefully alot of fun!  Monday and Tuesday are full days
with regular schedules and then Wednesday and Thursday
are half days with dismissal at 11:15. I want to thank you all
for a wonderful year and I have really enjoyed your
children! Have a safe and restful summer!

Plans for April 30th-May 4th

Hi Parents,
   We have had a good week! The book reports went very
well and they all did a good job! I loved the costumes
and the help you gave! You have probably heard that
my daughter is getting married next Saturday so I will
be out on Thursday and Friday being "Mother of the
Bride". I am posting most of the assignments for the
next two weeks.

Bible-Matthew 28:19-20 is due Friday May 4th.
         That is the last memory work other than
         something we do in class.

Reading-We are finishing up the last unit
            of our book and we will be doing
            some end of the book activities and
            reviewing skills.

Language-We are reviewing and will be
                  concentrating on nouns and verbs
                 this week and adjectives next week.

Spelling-Lesson 34, words with prefixes on
              pages 216-221 and next week Lesson
              35, words with suffixes on pages 222-227.

Math-Pages 255-264 on measurement and next week
         we will go on to capacity and weight.

Science-Continue with Matter.

Social Studies-Begin Unit 6 on People and
                        Places in History. Our Map
                        Test is Wednesday May 2nd.

Reminders: The U.S. Map Test is Wednesday! We are working on it
in class each day! Our wedding is Saturday May 5th at 6;00 at The
Church in the Pines, Lake Martin. I have told the children they are
invited so if you've heard that, it's true! Have a wonderful weekend!

Plans for April 23rd-27th

Hi Parents,
    Another good week as they begin a countdown to the
end of school! They are ready for summer!
Plans for next week:

Bible-The memory work for this week
        is Matthew 28:19 & 20. It will be
        due Friday May 4th.

Reading-We will be reading "The School
              Mural" on pages 430-453.

Language-We are going to be reviewing nouns
                  and verbs this week.

Spelling-Lesson 33, words ending with sound
             at the end of happy, on pages 210-215.

Math-Pages 251-252 on shapes.

Science-Continue with Matter.

Social Studies-Completing and reviewing Unit 5
                       with a test on Thursday.

Reminder: Their  Dress-Up book reports are next Friday. They need to
come to school dressed like their character and bring their uniform
to change  into.

Plans for April 16th-20th

Hi Parents,
   We have had a good week! I can't believe how
fast our year is coming to an end. The children are
working hard and have done a great job this spring!
The plans for the upcoming week:

Bible-Memory verse for this week is John 6:35,
        "Then Jesus declared," I am the bread of
          life. He who comes to me will never
          go hungry,and he who believes in me
          will never be thirsty." This will be due
          Friday April 20th.

Reading-We will read "Moses Goes to a Concert"
               on pages 391-423.

Language-We are going to be practicing some writing
                 skills this week.

Spelling-Lesson 32 on pages 204-209, more
              words with "ed" and "ing" endings.

Math-Continue with fractions on pages 357-364.

Science-We will begin a chapter on Matter,
              pages 358-367.

Social Studies-Pages 214-233 on colonies and our
                       growing country.

Plans for April 9th-13th

Hi Parents,
   I wish all of you a Happy Easter!  I hope you
have a long restful and blessed weekend! The
book reports today were well done!! Thank you for
your help with those.
Plans for next week:

Bible-Matthew 28:5-6, due Friday April 13th.

Reading-Pages 352-379, we will read  "The Art
          Lesson".

Language-Complete our paragraphs on expressing
                an opinion.

Spelling-Pages 198-199 Lesson 31, words with "ed" and
            "ing" endings.

Math-Pages 343-354, continue with fractions.

Science-We will be reviewing Weather and we
              will have a test on Thursday on Chapter 7.

Social Studies-Continue with the history of our country.
                     We are also working on the placement of
                     states in different ways. I hope you all
                      received the map and information last week
                     on the map test in May.

Plans for April 2nd-5th

Hi Parents,
      Spring Break is here! I think everyone is ready for
a break and some rest and relaxation! We had our Science
Fest this morning and it went very well and was lots
of fun! Enjoy your time and these are our plans when
you return.

Bible-Memory work is Matthew 28:5-6 and it
        will be due Friday April 13th. We will send
        a copy if this to you on Monday.

Reading-We are going to continue with Chapter
            Books and their book reports are due
            on Thursday the 5th.

Language-Pages 341-351 on writing an opinion.

Spelling-Lesson 30, a review lesson. The test will
             be on Thursday the 5th because of the
             Good Friday holiday. It covers pages 192-197.

Math-Pages 333-342, introducing fractions.

Science-Finishing up our unit on weather and reviewing.

Social Studies-Pages 206-219 the early colonies.

Reminder:Enjoy your week, March 26th-30th! Return to school
on Monday April 2nd and we will be off the following Friday
April 6th for Good Friday.

Plans for March 19th-23rd

Hi Parents,
    We just returned from seeing Eric Lutwin and
he was very good! The children really enjoyed
hearing him. He combined reading with alot of
music and it was so entertaining!
Plans for the next week:

Bible-Memory work for this week
         is John 10:11 due Friday March 23rd.
         "I am the good shepherd. The good
           shepherd lays down his life for
           the sheep."

Reading-Pages 316-342, The Cool Crazy
               Crickets, a short chapter book.

Language-Pages 320-325 and then
                 329-339 on reviewing unit 9.
                 We will have a test on unit 9
                 on Thursday.

Spelling-Lesson 28, words ending with "er"
               on pages 186-187. We will have
               the Spelling test on Thursday due
               to Science Fest on Friday.

Math-Pages 327-332 on order of numbers.

Science-Continue with weather.

Social Studies-Pages 202-213, our country
                      long ago.

Reminder:Friday March 23rd is Science Fest and we will
dismiss at 11:30. Lunch will not be served on Friday.
Spring Break is March 26th-30th.

Plans for March 12th-16th

Hi Parents,
    Well "Spring Fever" has hit! The children
have really enjoyed getting outside this week
and excitement just seem to be in the air!
They are working hard and it's hard to
believe we are starting our last nine weeks!
Plans for this week:

Bible-Memory work this week is
      Romans 5:8 due Friday March 16th.
      "But God demonstrates his own
       love for us in this: While we were
       still sinners, Christ died for us."

Reading-We have several short stories
              finishing up the end of the theme
              on families. They will cover
              pages 294-311.

Language-Pages 313-319 on commas and
                  quotations marks.

Spelling-Lesson 28, words with "or"
              on pages 180-185.

Math-Pages 315-326, comparing numbers.

Science-Continue with our study of weather.

Social Studies-We will be reviewing Unit 4
                  and there will be a test on Wednesday
                  March 14th.

Plans for March 5th-9th

Hi Parents,
     We have had another good week! We're all weary
of the bad weather. In second grade recess is our
favorite time of day and we've missed it some
this week, so we're ready for the sun to come back!
Today is Dr. Seuss' birthday so we've read some of his
books and done a couple of activities for that. We had
a very nice Chapel yesterday that we all enjoyed

Reading-Pages 261-291 "Thunder Cake" will be
              our story this week.

Language-Pages 303-304 on capitalization and
                punctuation.

Spelling-Lesson 27, words with the r-controlled
             vowel sound on pages 174-179.

Math-Pages 307-316 on place value.

Science-Pages 286-300 on measuring weather and
             the water cycle.

Social Studies-Pages 176-190 finishing up unit 4
                 on government.

Plans for February 27th-March 2nd

Hi Parents,
   I can't believe we are about to begin March, this year is
flying by! We had a good short week and especially
enjoyed our reading story about Jalapeno Bagels. We had
Chango bars one day that a sweet mother baked for us
and today, I brought in bagels and we put our choice of
jam, cream cheese, peanut butter or apple butter on them.
It's always a treat to eat something special in the classroom!
Plans for next week:

Bible-Memory work this week is
        Matthew 22:37-39. I will send
        a handout with this on Monday.
        It will be due Friday March 10th.

Reading-We will read the story "Carousel"
              on pages 221-251.

Language-We will begin Unit 9 on Capitalization
                  and Punctuation doing pages
                  297-302. On Friday we will
                  have a test on the days of the
                  week, months of the year    
                  and seasons. They need to write
                 them in order and spell them correctly.

Spelling-Lesson 26, contractions on pages 168-173.

Math-Pages 133-144, we will continue with time.

Science-We will continue with Weather.

Social Studies-Pages 166-179, continue with our study
                     of government.

Plans for February 21st-24th

Hi Parents,
    We had a fun and busy week and we really
enjoyed our Valentine's party! Thank you to
all who helped with that. We are all looking forward
to this long weekend!
Plans for next week:

Bible-Our memory verse is John 13:34 due
          Friday, Feb. 24th.  "A new command I
          give you: Love one another. As I have
          loved you, so you must love one another.

Reading-Pages 190-213 "Jalapeno Bagels" is our

Spelling-Lesson 25, compound words on pages 162-167.

Math-We are woking on time on pages 127-134.

             weather.

Plans for February 13th-16th

Hi Parents,
    We have had another good week and
enjoyed the play last Wednesday! It's
always exciting to change up the routine
some! Now we are looking forward to
a 4-day week and Valentine's Party! The
party will be from 2:00-2:50 on Tuesday.
Our bags are ready and hanging up so they
can bring their Valentine's in on Monday
or Tuesday. We will be out of school next
Friday and Monday so we will have a
4-day weekend.
Plans for next week:

Bible-The memory verse will be John 15:5
          due on Thursday the 16th."I am the
          vine; you are the branches. If a man
          remains in me and I in him, he will
         bear much fruit; apart from me you
         can do nothing."

Reading-We will finish up Biographies
               and introduce our next story
               called Brothers and Sisters.
               pages 136-181.

Language-Pages 267-275 on writing a
                 descriptive paragraph.

Spelling-Lesson 24, a review lesson
              on pages 156-161.

Math-Pages 119-126 on money.

Science-Finish up and review the Space
             unit and we will have a test on
             Thursday.

Social Studies-Pages 154-165 on government.


Reminder: We will be out of school on Friday Feb. 17th
and Monday Feb. 20th.

Plans for February 6th-10th

Hi Parents,
    We have had a good week and hopefully learned
lots of new things! The children are looking forward
to our field trip next week to Davis theater to see
the play "Henry and Mudge."
Plans for next week:

Bible- We will continue with Galatians
          5:22-23 and do some activities
          with the Fruits of the Spirit.

Reading-We will study biographies this
              week on pages 135-152.

Language-Continue and finish up
               adjectives and we will have
               the unit test on Friday.
               Unit 7 covers pages 239-254.

Spelling-Lesson 23 on pages 150-155,
              words that have the vowel sound
              you hear in cow.

Math-We will continue with money on
          pages 109-120.

Science-We will be finishing up our
              Space unit and doing some
              activities with this.

Social Studies-Introduce and begin
                    Unit 4 "Our Country Today,"
                    pages 148-159.

Reminder-We will be going on our field trip
Wednesday to the Davis Theater. We plan to
leave around 9:10 and return about 11:15. We
will sack lunches in our room provided by Sage.

Plans for January 30th-February 3rd

Hi Parents,
    We have had a good week and we're excited
about teaching others about the Flamenco spanish
dance. The children have worked hard and are
doing a great job! We are all looking forward to
wrapping up our Spanish study but it has been
fun and we have learned a lot about Spain.
Our classroom looks like outer space right now
so if you're out come by and see all our planets,
they did a great job!
Plans for next week:

Bible-Memory work for this week is
         Galatians 5:22-23 which I will
         send home on Monday in their
         red folders. It will be due on
         Friday Feb. 10th.

Reading-Pages 116-126, two short stories
               about dinosaurs and end of the
               theme activities.

Language-Pages 247-248 on adjectives.

Spelling-Lesson 22 on words with sounds like
             "book" and "took" on pages 144-149.

Math-Pages 101-109 on money.

Science-Pages 328-340 on the moon, seasons,
            and Earth's orbit.

Social Studies-We will be reviewing Unit 3
                        and we will have a test on it
                        on Thursday.

Plans for Jan. 23rd-27th

Hi Parents,
    We have had another good week! We're enjoying
our trip to Spain and learning alot of interesting
facts. We have also started learning the Flamenco
dance which is interesting with 20 second
graders but at the same time it's been fun!
   Planets are appearing and they are very
excited to bring those in, so thank you
for your help with those!
Plans for next week:

Bible:Memory work for this week
         is Psalm 27:1 due Friday Jan. 27th
         "The Lord is my light and salvation-
            whom shall I fear? The Lord is
            the stronghold of my life-of
            whom shall I be afraid?"

Reading-We will be reading "The Great
              Ball Game" on pages 88-109.

Language-Continue with adjectives on
               pages 243-250.

Spelling-Lesson 21 on pages 138-143,
             words with the vowel sound you
             hear in tall.

Math-Pages 405-408, and review adding
         and subtracting  3-digit numbers.

Science-Pages 324-340, the moon and
               seasons.

Social Studies-Pages 136-143 finishing
               up Unit 3 and reviewing.

Reminders:On Friday we will complete our study of
Spain with lots of fun activities. The children should
come to school dressed in their Spanish attire and

Plans for Jan.17-20th

Hi Parents,
    We have had a fun week. I think the children really
enjoyed the Planetarium! They have worked hard
and are enjoying our Space unit.They are also
looking forward to their day off on Monday!
Plans for next week:

Bible-Memory work this week is
        John 3:16 "For God so loved the
                     world that he gave his one
                     and only Son, that whoever
                     believes in him shall not
                     perish but have eternal life."
      This will be due Friday Jan. 20th.

Reading-Pages 58-83, we will read a
             non-fiction story called "Ant."

Language-We will begin Unit 7 on
                  adjectives, pages 239-246.

Spelling-Lesson 20, words with sounds
           of "c" and "g" on pages 132-137.

Math-Pages 399-400 more on adding and
           subtracting 3-digit numbers.

Science-Pages 320-330, day and night and
              phases of the moon.

Social Studies-Pages 134-139 trading goods and
                        transportation.

Plans for Jan. 9th-13th

Hi Parents,
   We just landed in Spain and we had a very
smooth flight! We have launched our month
long study of Spain. I was glad to see my
class return all safe and sound from the
holidays! I hope you all had a nice break.
Next Tuesday the 10th we have a Fathers
field trip to the Planetarium. We need to
leave Trinity by 9:00 and we should be
back by 11:00. Just let your child know
if you can come. Mothers, grandfathers, etc.
are always welcome also.
Following are plans for next week:

Bible-Jeremiah 29:11 is due Friday the 13th.

Reading-We will read "Officer Buckle and
              Gloria" on pages 16-51.

Language-We will finish up writing instructions
                and write an instructional paragraph.

Spelling-Lesson 19 on pages 126-131,words
              ending with "s" or "es". The test
              and dictation will be on Friday now
              every week.

Math-Pages 391-402 subtraction with 3-digit
         numbers.

Science-Pages 312-327 on the solar system.

Social Studies-Pages 116-129 on community
                      services.

Reminders; Field trip on Tuesday and looking ahead to
Jan. 16th, we have a holiday that Monday.

Plans for Jan.4th-6th

Hi Parents,
    Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday
and enjoyed your time with family and friends. I am looking
forward to seeing the children tomorrow and hearing about
their Christmas! We have an exciting January planned with
many activities. Next week we have our Fathers Field trip
to the Planetarium. We plan to leave Trinity at 9:00 and we
should return by 11:00. Also this month we will be involved
in a cultural study of Spain.
The following are our plans for this week:

Bible-The memory work is Jeremiah 29:11
         "For I know the plans I have for you,
           declares the Lord, plans to prosper you
           and not to harm you, plans to give you
           hope and a future." This will be due
           January 13th.

Reading-Introduce Amazing Animals on pages
              10-15.

Language-Writing instructions on pages 206-212.

Spelling-Lesson 18 on pages 120-125. This is a review
              lesson and we will not have a test this week.

Math-Pages 383-390 on 3-digit subtraction. We will
         start timed subtraction test next week.

Science-We will begin our unit on the Solar System,
             pages 308-315.

Social Studies-Pages 116-125, on goods and
                     services and using a compass rose.
